The Strange World Of ‘Salad Fingers’.
Anyone with a taste for the surreal will just love this. It’s a rather strange animation by David Firth called, ‘Salad Fingers’. It’s all a little bit difficult to explain, but I shall do my very best…
Salad Fingers, a green and lanky figure, lives in a strange and barren-looking world. The only other characters to dwell here are odd and often scary creatures that wander around the landscape now and then. They do not appear to have any specific purpose to their lives; but in ‘Salad Fingers’, nothing appears to have any specific purpose.
There is no great story to follow in this animation; each episode simply follows our character’s interaction with some random object. I just watched one about a nettle (in a pram) and found the whole thing a bit freaky…
The background music in the cartoon is a rather unsettling track by Boards of Canada called, ‘Beware the Friendly Stranger’ and other musicians lend their work to this cartoon from time to time as well. Brian Eno, Aphex Twin and Sigur Ros have all been credited in the animation.
A friend of mine is a really big Sigur Ros fan and I shall have to send her an email…
If you could transfer David Lynch from film to cartoon then you would probably end up with ‘Salad Fingers’. It is eerie, amusing, disturbing and addictive to watch. The animation has gained a very large cult following over the last six years. You can now even buy ‘Salad Fingers’ T-shirts, stickers and button badges!
So, I was speaking to my brother who works in the city and he reckons that there is massive money in buying stocks for heating oil supplier. He is one of those types of people who is of the belief that America is trying to seize the world by taking over the Middle East. I must say I am getting bored of the fact that everyone seems to have the same reasoning on this.
