Meet Harry, He’s A Marketing Genius, Don’t You Know
The article at the link is all about priorities; which ones certain business men and women put at the top of their agenda when going about doing what they do: http://www.eniginliaison.com/2009/12/17/enigin-this-little-piggy-went-to-market/
And marketing is indeed a big deal. Take my mate Harry The Lad for example. Harry was born and raised on a London market. Now, when I say “Born and raised” I mean literally. Harry’s mother – Theresa is her name, and a fine woman she is – was a market trader and traded right up until she was about to give give birth. Only Harry was anxious to get out and start trading as soon as was physically possible, and decided he wanted to come out during the fish deliveries one morning in 1965… Anyway, it didn’t hurt Harry.
He soon learned about business and took over from his dear old mother. And here’s my point: much as I liked Mrs Harry Senior, she could have a temper on her could Theresa. And this was something that Harry couldn’t have been more different to. Harry, you see, had his own marketing strategy, and it was this: he would go about the market handing out free fish every Monday, to get people in, to show the world that you could get something for free without getting ripped off and getting food poisoning in the process. And it worked.
To this day, Harry wanders the market on a Monday, handing out wet fish to passerby, making people smile. The moral of this story? Wet fish are clearly in demand and being nice is a damn good marketing tool. The key to good marketing – fish based or online or whatever – is finding a way to get people to believe in you. Once you’ve done that then you’re away.
